My name is Jonathan Darling and I’m a Senior Lecturer in Human Geography at the University of Manchester, UK. I have research interests in urban and political geography, more specifically in the politics of asylum, forced migration and the ethics of sanctuary. I teach on urban geography and the politics of borders, mobility and security. I currently direct the Cities, Politics, Economies Research Group in Geography, and am a member of the Manchester Urban Institute leadership team.
Prior to working at Manchester, I was a Teaching Fellow in Geography at the University of St. Andrews and completed a PhD in Geography at Durham University. My work has been published in a range of journals in geography and political science, details of which can be found in the publications section of this site or through my Google Scholar page. If you’re interested in hearing more about my research, working with me, or having a cup of tea please contact me here, thanks!
